IGCSE Physics 0625 Tutor: Theory, Multiple Choice and Practical

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) with Engr. Muhammad Waseem. Lessons are available online and in person.

How 0625 is assessed

Every candidate takes three papers: a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and one practical paper. Which multiple-choice and theory papers depend on the tier.

Tier Multiple choice Theory Practical (choose one) Grades
Core Paper 1: 45 min, 40 marks, 30% Paper 3: 1 h 15 min, 80 marks, 50% Paper 5 or Paper 6 C to G
Extended Paper 2: 45 min, 40 marks, 30% Paper 4: 1 h 15 min, 80 marks, 50% Paper 5 or Paper 6 A* to G

The practical component is worth 20%: either Paper 5 Practical Test (1 hour 15 minutes, 40 marks) or Paper 6 Alternative to Practical (1 hour, 40 marks). Extended candidates study the Core content plus the Supplement.

Core plus Supplement

In the syllabus, each topic lists Core statements and Supplement statements side by side. A student aiming for grade C or above needs both, and the Supplement is where most of the harder calculations and explanations sit. Lessons make the boundary clear, so Extended students don't miss Supplement points and Core students don't waste time on them.

Topics

1 Motion, forces and energy · 2 Thermal physics · 3 Waves · 4 Electricity and magnetism · 5 Nuclear physics · 6 Space physics

Practical skills without a lab

Paper 6, Alternative to Practical, tests experimental skills on paper: reading scales, recording results in tables, plotting graphs, drawing conclusions and suggesting improvements. These skills are practised directly in lessons with original exercises.

How lessons work

  • Concepts first, then the definitions and wording that mark schemes reward.
  • Multiple-choice technique for the 40-question paper.
  • Structured theory questions with full working and correct units.
  • Timed papers in the final weeks, marked against official mark schemes.

FAQ

Should I take Paper 5 or Paper 6? The syllabus says all candidates take one practical paper from a choice of two: Paper 5 Practical Test or Paper 6 Alternative to Practical. Core candidates are entered for Papers 1 and 3 and either Paper 5 or Paper 6; Extended candidates for Papers 2 and 4 and either Paper 5 or Paper 6. Both are worth 40 marks and 20%, and both are based on the experimental skills in Section 4 of the syllabus. Check with your school or exam centre which one you are entered for.

What is the Supplement? It is the extra content that Extended candidates study on top of the Core.

What grades can Core candidates get? C to G. Extended candidates are eligible for A* to G.
