O Level Physics 5054 Tutor in Pakistan
Cambridge O Level Physics (5054), taught by Engr. Muhammad Waseem, online and in person.
The three components
5054 is untiered: all candidates take three components and are eligible for grades A* to E.
| Component | Length | Marks | Weighting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: Multiple Choice (40 four-option questions) | 1 hour | 40 | 30% |
| Paper 2: Theory (short-answer and structured) | 1 hour 45 minutes | 80 | 50% |
| Paper 3: Practical Test or Paper 4: Alternative to Practical | 1 h 30 min or 1 h | 40 | 20% |
The syllabus states that calculators may be used in all parts of the examination.
Where marks are won and lost
- Paper 2 is half the grade. At 1 hour 45 minutes it is a long theory paper, so stamina, clear explanations and units count.
- Paper 1 rewards speed and accuracy. Forty questions in an hour leaves about 90 seconds each.
- The practical paper is 20%. Recording, graphing and evaluation skills can be learned like any other topic.
Topics
The content covers six areas: Motion, forces and energy; Thermal physics; Waves; Electricity and magnetism; Nuclear physics; and Space physics. Lessons connect the physics to everyday examples and to the definitions that the mark schemes use.
How lessons work
- Assessment: find which topics and which paper types cost the most marks.
- Teaching: concepts, then worked calculations with correct units and significant figures.
- Paper skills: multiple-choice strategy, structured answers, and practical-skills exercises.
- Exam preparation: timed papers, marked against official mark schemes.
